The next three nights are at Haven Holiday Park which promised direct access to the beach… However the touring area is right at the very back of the very large park and the access, although fully paved is on an extremely steep path down to the beach meaning it still took the best part of 20 minutes to get to the beach…. The beach at Perran bay is huge and over a mile long in total and almost as far when the tide is fully out but it is a magnificent beach.
Walked down first afternoon and spent a bit of time sitting on the beach but it was very windy and no shelter so we walked down to Perranporth and then back up the road to the site.
On Wednesday, once it had stopped raining we walked down the road to the town and had a good mooch around. Had a coffee at a place called Crib, my flat white was very good and although nice Sarah said her cappuccino wasn’t strong enough and so a bit milky.
Walked up and around the far end of the town coming back down through a residential area. There was also a very well kept park with a boating lake. Bought lamb and mint pasties and sat on a bench near the top of the beach to eat them.
Walked back over the dunes from the town beach and back for an evening on site. Still very windy up there!
On Thursday we walked along the coast path, taking the high route, to Holywell Bay on another very windy and slightly chilly day. It is a nice walk though and we had a coffee at the pub before finding a reasonably sheltered spot to sit on the beach for a couple of hours where we had our picnic before making our way back to Perranporth but this time along the beach and up the very steep access road back into the site.
A few jobs, cup of tea and a beer with dinner. Off to Newquay for the day tomorrow before our next site near Constantine bay.
Friday 18th to Sunday 20th September 2026
Perran Sands Holiday Park to Treyarnon bay camping, Nr Constantine bay.

On the way to Treyarnon bay we stopped off in Newquay for a few hours as it is one of our favourite places but the site we stay at was already closed for the season. The town felt more affluent than previously with more shops and cafes than I remember and much better quality but still with the Newquay vibe. Walked down to Fistral and back around the coast to the town before heading off to our next site. I look forward to getting back to Newquay next year.
The site at Treyarnon bay was a lovely spot with a very short walk down to the bay and a further 5 minutes to Constantine bay. Unfortunately the weather was average on the afternoon we arrived and so bad the following day we didn’t go anywhere but decided to book a third night so we could make the walk to Padstow on a nicer day which was predicted.
The walk to Padstow along the SWC path is a lovely one and one which we have completed before. It was just over 8 miles and the weather was fine all day but Sarah was finding it hard work by the end.
A nice wander around with a coffee, ice-cream and beer (not necessarily in that order) before catching the bus back to Constantine Bay. We had considered staying a further day but the weather was average yet again so we decided that we would move on to Polzeath and see what that was like.
