Day 4 walking around Isle of Wight

Started the day in Bramble Chine where we had stayed in an old brick built holiday chalet that had been refurbished to a high standard and was very comfortable. The coast path goes through the site and quickly works it’s way down to the sea front. A lovely sunny morning but a chilly wind kept some layers on.

Going past the old Life Boat station we walk up into Totland which is a lovely village and onto the path taking you up towards the Needles walking through the gorse in full yellow flower. The views across the Solent to the mainland are fantastic.

We walked up across Headon Warren and we get our first glimpse of the Needles. Along the top before dropping down into Alum Bay where if you wish you can get a cable car down to the beach to look at the multi coloured sand. We opted for a coffee and muffin instead for our breakfast

After coffee we walked up towards Tennyson Down even though some cows tried very hard to block our way. A lot of cajoling and patting on their rumps eventually got them to move enough to squeeze by. Very nice and docile but a bit stubborn!

Up the hill from there past the coastguard cottages and back towards the monument and down to Freshwater. This was when the wind started to blow and was a constant and wearing factor for the rest of the day.

Carried on down into Freshwater for an ice cream and then up and onto the coast path once more which we followed for the best part of 6 hours up and down and while all lovely was basically a bit groundhogs day right up until we reached our destination for the night at the Wight Mouse Inn which has been a favourite for many years.
