The Lakes with Ken – March 2024

I was lucky to win a competition through The North Face that gave me a mountain trail running experience with Josh Wade, one of their Ambassadors in the Lakes. The run was excellent even if it did break both of us just a bit..

The legend Josh Wade 😁

Following the run Ken and I had decided to do a wild camp at Great Moss up the Eskdale valley.

Return hike. Purple circle was breakfast!

The weather managed to stay dry for most of the way but once we reached Hard Knott the wind picked up with gusts that were hard to stand up in. The walk down the valley is very picturesque although it does get quite tough going towards the end.

Our planned camp by the river at Great Moss wasn’t a good option due to the wind so we retraced our steps to an area that felt a bit calmer although still gusty which included some impressive hail storms!

We survived the night but without much sleep due to the wind and hail despite Ken’s tent suffering some pole damage.

We decided to get going and have breakfast on the way back when we could find a bit of shelter as the wind was still strong and flippen cold.

A sheep fold about 45 minutes walk was the perfect place to cook up bacon sarnies and brew some coffee.

Overall a bit too windy but the location is excellent so maybe a return sometime in fairer weather.
